Week 25 Game Summary - a nice tight game of 6 on 6 / 7 on 7 with some nice debuts and some generally good play all around.

Outstanding Performances
I really like Nick's performance for most of the game. Until late in the game, he was running well over 50% completions and finished the game with 49.02%. He also had 3 TDs and 300 yards passing! He also threw 3 picks but considering the pressure he was under (sacked 8 times), its not too surprising that he might have a couple miscues. Actually, I was surprised to read that there were 8 sacks because I was amazed at how many times he was escaping pressure to make a good throw. I was especially impressed at how often he was checking down to throw short under those conditions. The week before, the longer the play, the more likely he'd throw long.

Another outstanding performance for Red was Erick who was 13 of 16 for 156 yards and a TD. Seriously, 13 of 16? Those are some of the biggest stats I've recorded on a receiver. He also had a pick, a pass defensed, and a couple flags.

Smitty had a nice debut with 5 flags, a pass defensed, a pick, and a sack on defense. His numbers on offense weren't as good with 3 of 13 and one rush but he did get 69 yards and a TD so that's not shabby at all and he was covered pretty well.

Yellow had a number of nice performances as well starting with our QBs. 355 yards between them and 3 TDs each and very respectable completion percentages (40% for Cain and 45.45% for Leo). Cain added to that with a nice 3 of 6 for 53 yards and a TD receiving and 18 yards rushing as well as 5 flags (1 sack), 1 pass defensed, 1 pick, and a defensive TD.

Matt Cluen was the other great debut. He only had 2 catches for 28 on offense, but he had a very strong defensive game - 8 flags (one sack) and a pass defensed.

But the biggest standouts for Yellow, however were Mark and Ray. Mark was 5 of 6 for 112 yards and a TD receiving and then had a monster day on defense with 7 flags (3 of them sacks). Ray had only 2 catches but they went for 80 yards and 2 TDs. He also had and 9 flags (tops in the game), one pass defensed and another 3 intercepted.

Until I got finished transcribing the game, I had thought the MVP was going to be Ray but when I looked that the numbers, I realized that this week Mark deserves it. Its hard to linemen to get the MVP award but 3 sacks is a big number. Add 4 more flags to that and you have a dominant defensive performance. I think its safe to assume that at least one of Ray's picks occurred in part due to pressure that Mark and Casey (who also had 3 sacks) were putting on Nick. In addition, Mark was clearly a goto receiver for Yellow with his lone miss being a diving attempt that he nearly had that would have been a TD. Also worth mentioning is his TD that was the result of a stiffarm and some serious YAC.

On a personal note, I had mixed feelings about my performance. I feel like I played 2 half games. I had a good first half on offense with 3 catches for 78 yards and 2 TDs. But then I had 2 drops in the second part of the game. On defense, I did little early in the game but then came alive 3 defensed passes and a couple flags.

Week 26 Preview - This game will mark six months of the season gone. There are only a couple months left in the season but so far its been a great one. Weather shows warmer this week with a chance of some rain but as you all know, we play in the rain, seriously.

Week 24 Game Summary - Why oh why do we have weather that allows the temperature go from low 60s one week to low 80s the next? I hate the heat. I hereby christen this the week of the drop. I counted 13 drops between both sides. Cain paid the biggest price since Red had the bulk of them.

I normally don't track drops but this game had so many that I felt I owed it to Nick and Cain. Nick would have had a 50% completion rate which is the benchmark I've set for a great QB game in our game.

Cain, however, would have had far better stats. He could have gone 22 of 39 with a 56.41% completion rate. While I didn't record how far down the field the drops were, but I can saw that one of mine had me free and clear running through all the traffic going the other way and it likely would have been good for 40 yards and a TD. I think its safe to assume that those 9 completions would have been worth 80 yards or more.

Louis doesn't believe there should be an MVP in a tie game but there were several very nice performances beside Nick's and Cain's I would like to highlight.

On Yellow, Tom had a very nice debut with 8 receptions on 12 targets for 158 yards and a TD. He also had TD that Matt handed to him. Yellow also had Chenault's 4 reception on 7 targets for 75 yards and 2 TDs coupled with 2 sacks worth -23 yards.

Red, was also blessed with some nice performances. Josh had 6 on 12 targets for 122 yards and a TD. Jimmy was 3 on 3 for 58 yards and a TD. Plus on defense he had a pass defensed and a Pick-6 Interception (with a little help) for another TD. In addition to a good day at QB, Cain had 6 flags (including one sack), 1 pass defensed, and an INT. For Adam, it was all about the game that could have been. 83 yards on 3 receptions (and one run for a loss) with a TD were some nice stats as was the 4 flags and 4 passes defensed (including the one to Chenault at the end of the game that would have allowed Yellow to win). But 5 drops!!!! I need a QB to come out early this week and throw me some balls.

Week 25 - Looking for Cain to use a sticky ball and maybe cooler weather. Saturday is supposed to only have a high of 72.

MVP - Lot of good performances to choose from and I'm not sure who to award it to. Consider the key contenders:

Erik - 6 receptions for 77 yards and 3 TDs on 9 targets. Then he has 5 flag grabs and an INT returned for a TD (on the first play of the game).

Paul - 42 combined yards on offense with 1 receiving TD and 1 rushing TD. On defense he had 3 flags, 2 passes defended and 3 INTs including one returned for a TD (and it wasn't a gimme).

So looking at these two performances, Erik had the stronger offensive performance (and proved why he was the goto receiver) while Paul had good offensive production but a better defensive game.

But then there's the wild card. To me, anything close to 50% in passing is huge in our game. At 39.39%, Cain didn't hit that but he did have 206 yards, 5 passing TDs, NO picks and laid out a couple key blocks including one that almost certainly gave Adam the chance to score a 30 yard rushing TD. On defense he only had 2 flags but did get a pick.

Honestly, I don't know how to pick this one. 6 Receptions, 77 Yards, and 4 total TDs is big, big game any week. But in this game, it was defense that was key. Defense killed drives, preventing scores and giving Red great field position for relatively easy conversion. Still, 200 yards 5 TDs and 0 picks is pretty good stuff, especially on a very windy day. I give up, I'm impressed by all three.
