Speaking of running TDs, when was the last time we had a game with 4 rushing TDs and only one was a QB run? 2 were straight out runs and one was a Cuba-libre. 2 Players had over 100 combined yards - Burleson who may not have showed up much during the year but sure showed up today with 126 yards and a TD and Canadian who had 106 yards. Next we had Leo and Paul with 2 TDs each (one rushing and one receiving) and 95 and 85 yards respectively. Treadaway also had 91 yards.

Lot of defense in this year's finale. Total of 15 defensed passes, 3 picks (one for a TD), and 13 sacks. As you'll see in the season-ending stats, defense has really stepped up this year. Jason had 6 sacks and a defensed pass. Adam had 3.5 sacks and 3 defensed passes. Cain had 2 picks (including the Pick-Six). Canadian had a pick and a rather painful defensed pass. Paul had 4 defensed passes and Charles and Zieser each had 2 defensed passes.

Awards:

MVP - Cain with a very nice offensive and defensive performance.

Offensive Player of the Game - Tie for Leo and Paul who had virtually identical stats: 5 touches for 2 TDs, and 1 first down and 95 and 85 yards respectively.

Defensive Player of the Game - Chenault - 6 sacks is an amazing performance. Adam had a great game too but sacks are worht more than defensed passes since the sack comes with a loss of yards.

Wins and Losses

Week 37 provides an opportunity to discuss how I score wins and losses. You can score it however you like at home but this is how I look at it.

Scenario #1: Red is beating Yellow the whole way. If a player leaves Red before the end of the game, he still gets the W because the team was leading when he left and never lost the lead. If a player leaves Yellow to join Red (maybe Yellow had an extra guy), he doesn't get the W because Red was already winning but he doesn't get the L because he left the losing team before the game was over.

Scenario #2: Yellow is beating Red when a player leaves Yellow to go home. If Red ends up winning the game, the player doesn't get a W or L because the team was winning when he left and didn't lose until later.

Scenario #2a: In this case, Yellow was winning when the player left the game. Then Red takes the lead and Yellow comes back to win it, the player who left does not get the W because he wasn't on the team when it took the final lead.

Scenario #3: Red is beating Yellow and a player switches from Red to Yellow. Yellow then goes on to beat Red. The player who switched gets the W because he was on the team when it took the lead.

The same basic scenarios work for a player who shows up late. If the team he joins was already winning and never loses that lead, the new player doesn't get the W. If the team was losing when he shows up and never gained the lead once the late player joined the team, the player doesn't get the L. Any lead status change that occurs while a player is on a team is attached to that player.

The same concepts also work if the player leaves, joins, or changes while the game is tied. He is partially responsible for anything that happens through the rest of the time he's on the team and gets credit or blame for it.

Now some would say that if a player joins a team that was losing and the team wins but that player "didn't do shit" as evidenced by the stats, I'll have some interesting stats to share with you at the end of the year. Anyone who has played line knows that sometimes the guy who doesn't get the sacks is a huge part of the reason the sacks occur. Sometimes the cornerback who does nothing but cover a guy tight is the reason the sacks occur. So just because a player doesn't get a stat doesn't mean he wasn't a contributor.

Week 37 Game Summary:

Challenging game with the weather but it's nice to have a game where the lead changes a couple times to show how competitive it is.

Kudos to Street for completing over 50% of his passes in very ugly weather. Kudos to Nick for completing 38% of his in more challenging weather (remember Street left at 10:50 and the game went until 11:30). I tend to think the low yardage was caused more by the field conditions than the fact that we were 9 on 9 for most of the game with a lot of QB running.

Speaking of QBs running, Nick led all offensive players with 121 yards that went for 2 TDs and 4 1st downs on his 11 carries. Cain was next with a 114 combined yards for 3 TDs and 3 1st downs on a total of 7 touches. After that we had Treadaway and Matta with 56 and 55, respectively and no one else cracked 50 yards.

Very good numbers on the day for both QBs with each completing 20 of roughly 40. Nick had more passing yards but a lot of that was because Cain got sacked 7 times (which surprises me given how many times Adam got there but missed the flag and he took off for another 13 yards). Not a ton of passing yards but enough to keep the game fun.

Two triple digit ball carriers this week and one was a QB! Cain had 152 on the ground. His 12 carries resulted in a TD and 6 first downs. BB had 125 yards on 9 receptions that went for 2 TDs and 3 first downs. He also had a key block on one of Cain's runs that turned a potential sack into a 30 yard gain.

Quite a few good defensive performances this week. BB had 2 defensed passes. Chris and Frank each had 2 sacks and Frank also had a defensed pass. Adam had 2 sacks (one for a safety) and stop for a loss along with a defensed pass. Canadian had 2 defensed passes and a pick. Chenault had 2.5 sacks and a QB pressure. Day had 1.5 sacks. Treadaway had 2 defensed passes, a pick, and a sack.

MVP - Canadian wins it this week. For those of you who are not familiar with my basic methodology here it is: 1) The MVP almost always comes from the winning team (there have been some rare exceptions). 2) I look for the player who dominated the most. Someone who simply was unstoppable or making all the clutch plays. 3) If there isn't one of those, I look for someone who had a very good game on both offense and defense - we play an iron man game so I like to reward people who are tops on both sides of the ball in a game. 4) I also use a fantasy point system sometimes to help make decision.
