Week 15 Game Summary - CORRECTED:

Red - Adam, Barry, Burleson, Chenault, Cole, Day, Jesse, Josh, & Street
Yellow - Canadian, Chad, Leo, Mark, Matta, Nick, Paul, & Treadaway

Red's sponsors were Geritol and Ensure as I think they had the three oldest players in the game and they each scored TDs.

Game was 7 on 7 for the 1st series of each team and then 8 on 8 for the remainder.

Yellow Drive #1
1-12 from the 8: Pass by Nick to Mark - 7 yard gain - stopped by Street.
2-5 from the 15: Nick - sacked by Adam. Loss of 10 yards.
3-15 from the 5: Pass by Nick to Leo - 75 yard gain and the TD. Leo was pretty well covered but once he got the ball, he just outran the defenders. This will turn out to be the longest play from scrimmage in the game. 1 - 0, Yellow.

Red Drive #1
1-12 from the 8: Pass by Street to Adam - incomplete. QB pressure by Mark.
2-12 from the 8: Pass by Street to Josh - incomplete. Ball low but Chad had a nice break on the ball.
3-12 from the 8: Pass by Street to Josh - intercepted by Nick - stopped by Cole.

Yellow Drive #2
1-15 from the 35: Pass by Nick to Chad - incomplete. QB pressure by Adam.
2-15 from the 35: Pass by Nick to Treadaway - 20 yard gain - stopped by Barry.
1-Goal from the 15: Pass by Nick to Canadian - 0 yard gain - stopped by Street.
2-Goal from the 15: Pass by Nick to Chad - incomplete. Chad didn't have feet in bounds.
3-Goal from the 15: Pass by Nick to Chad - dropped.
4-Goal from the 15: Nick - sacked by Josh. Loss of 0 yards. .Strip-sack

Red Drive #2
1-15 from the 25: Pass by Street to Burleson - incomplete.
2-15 from the 25: Pass by Street to Barry - 55 yard gain and the TD. Little 10 yard cross play - Barry is stumbling about midfield after the catch but regains his footing and gets by the defense for a TD. 1 - 1, Tie.

Yellow Drive #3
1-12 from the 8: Pass by Nick to Leo - intercepted by Jesse - stopped by Mark. QB pressure by Adam.

Red Drive #3
1-Goal from the 18: Run by Street for 11 yards - stopped by Canadian.
2-Goal from the 7: Pass by Street to Day - 7 yard gain and the TD. Street had to scramble several times (back and forth) before finding a lane to throw to Day at the front of the endzone. Street threw low where only Day had a chance and Day dropped to get it. 2 - 1, Red.

Yellow Drive #4
1-12 from the 8: Pass by Nick to Leo - incomplete. Quickhit pass was a little high and sailed through Leo's hands right into Jesse's who was too busy thinking about the Pick-Six to catch it : )
2-12 from the 8: Pass by Nick to Leo - 1 yard gain - stopped by Adam. Another quickhit pass.
3-11 from the 9: Pass by Nick to Mark - intercepted by Street - stopped by Treadaway.

Red Drive #4
1-2 from the 22: Pass by Street to Barry - 12 yard gain - stopped by going out of bounds. Barry does a nice job of planting his feet on the sideline and leaning out to make the catch before stepping out. This particularly nice because Chad had another good break on the ball.
1-Goal from the 10: Street throws the ball away. QB pressure by Mark and Matta.
2-Goal from the 10: Pass by Street to Josh - incomplete. QB pressure by Nick. Ball was wide in part because of pressure and in part because Canadian had good coverage.
3-Goal from the 10: Pass by Street to Barry - incomplete.
4-Goal from the 10: Pass by Street to Burleson - 9 yard gain - stopped by Paul. Very good defensive series for Yellow.

Yellow Drive #5
1-19 from the 1: Pass by Nick to Paul - 25 yard gain - stopped by Jesse. Good protection to get a ball that far up the field (almost all in the air) on 1st down from the 1.
1-14 from the 26: Nick - sacked by Adam. Loss of 9 yards.
2-23 from the 17: Pass by Nick to Canadian - incomplete.
3-23 from the 17: Pass by Nick to Leo - defensed by Barry. Leo comes out the backfield and Nick throws a nice ball just out in front of him at the line of scrimmage. Leo turns to catch the ball and finds Barry trying to violate the laws of physics by occupying the same space at the same time without the benefit of Kitty Pryde-like abilities. Ironically, Leo was not badly hurt until Barry gave him a low five and did some kind of damage to Leo's wrist - X-rays and MRI (perhaps) to follow.
4-3 from the 17: Punt by Mark for 57 yards. HUGE punt by Mark. Definitely one of the longest of the season.

Red Drive #5
1-14 from the 6: Pass by Street to Chenault - 4 yard gain - stopped by Paul.
2-10 from the 10: Pass by Street to Chenault - 8 yard gain - stopped by Canadian.
3-2 from the 18: Pass by Street to Chenault - incomplete. Ball low.
4-2 from the 18: Pass by Street to Josh - 12 yard gain - stopped by Treadaway.
1-10 from the 30: Street - sacked by Matta. Loss of 3 yards.
2-13 from the 27: Pass by Street to Day - incomplete. Ball wide.
3-13 from the 27: Pass by Street to Josh - 20 yard gain - stopped by Paul.
1-13 from the 33: Pass by Street to Adam - incomplete. Great throw but Adam stumbled on his break and couldn't quite reach it.
2-13 from the 33: Pass by Street to Day - incomplete. Ball wide.
3-13 from the 33: Pass by Street to Chenault - 32 yard gain - stopped by Unknown.
1-Goal from the 1: Run by Street for 0 yards - stopped by Mark. Ball on the 6 inch line after the play.
2-Goal from the 1: Street - sacked by Matta. Loss of 6 yards.
3-Goal from the 7: Pass by Street to Day - dropped.
4-Goal from the 7: Pass by Street to Josh - incomplete. Ball out of reach. Nice long drive by Yellow didn't allow the score.

Yellow Drive #6
1-Goal from the 7: Pass by Nick to Chad - incomplete.
2-Goal from the 7: Nick - sacked by Chenault for a safety. Loss of 7 yards. 2.5 - 1, Red.

Red Drive #6
1-12 from the 8: Pass by Street to Cole - 42 yard gain - stopped by Paul.
1-10 from the 30: Pass by Street to Jesse - 24 yard gain - tackled by Leo.
1-Goal from the 6: Pass by Street to Cole - incomplete. Ball just a bit too long.
2-Goal from the 6: Run by Street for 5 yards - stopped by Canadian.
3-Goal from the 1: Pass by Street to Burleson - 1 yard gain and the TD. Little trips play with Burleson coming underneath the formation. 3.5 - 1, Red.

Yellow Drive #7
1-12 from the 8: Pass by Nick to Treadaway - 17 yard gain - stopped by Jesse. Great throw under lots of pressure.
1-15 from the 25: Pass by Nick to Canadian - incomplete. Ball low.
2-15 from the 25: Pass by Nick to Mark - incomplete. Ball long.
3-15 from the 25: Nick - sacked by Adam. Loss of 4 yards.
4-19 from the 21: Pass by Nick to Canadian - defensed by Jesse. Nice route. Canadian ran right past the first down cone on the sideline and Nick dropped it on a dime but Jese came in to knock the ball away.

Red Drive #7
1-1 from the 21: Pass by Street to Day - intercepted by Paul - stopped by Jesse. Day popped the ball up.

Yellow Drive #8
1-19 from the 21: Pass by Nick to Leo - 11 yard gain - stopped by Cole. Cole gets the flag reaching up from the ground.
2-8 from the 32: Pass by Nick to Canadian for 3 yards. Canadian pitches to Mark who takes it 2 more yards - stopped by Street.
3-3 from the 37: Pass by Nick to Paul - 5 yard gain - stopped by Jesse.
1-18 from the 38: Pass by Nick to Leo - 4 yard gain - stopped by Cole.
2-14 from the 34: Run by Nick for 4 yards - stopped by Barry.
3-10 from the 30: Pass by Nick to Paul - defensed by Jesse.
4-10 from the 30: Pass by Nick to Canadian - defensed by Barry. Barry hit the ball as it was thrown. Yellow was marching it nicely before Yellow made a couple plays to end the drive.

Red Drive #8
1-10 from the 30: Pass by Street to Chenault - incomplete.
2-10 from the 30: Pass by Street to Cole - defensed by Canadian.

3-Goal from the 23: Pass by Street to Cole - defensed by Canadian.
4-Goal from the 23: Pass by Street to Cole - defensed by Canadian. That's three defensed passes on one drive by Canadian.

Yellow Drive #9
1-17 from the 23: Pass by Nick to Treadaway - incomplete. Treadaway had settled down with a foot on the sideline.
2-17 from the 23: Pass by Nick to Mark - incomplete.
3-17 from the 23: Pass by Leo to Paul - defensed by Jesse. Nick pitches to Leo on a roll to the right. Leo was either boxed in or supposed to throw on a designed call. Either way, he threw to Paul.
4-17 from the 23: Pass by Nick to Mark - intercepted by Cole - stopped by Leo.

Red Drive #9
1-14 from the 34: Run by Street for 15 yards - stopped by Canadian.
1-Goal from the 19: Pass by Street to Barry - defensed by Mark. Mark slammed the ball as it was thrown.
2-Goal from the 19: Run by Street for 1 yards - stopped by Matta.
3-Goal from the 18: Pass by Street to Barry - incomplete.
4-Goal from the 18: Pass by Street to Cole - incomplete. QB pressure by Mark and Chad. Cole had to turn defender to prevent Paul from picking it. Another good defensive series for Yellow.

Yellow Drive #10
1-2 from the 18: Pass by Nick to Leo - incomplete. Quick slant but the ball was low and basically hit Street in the shin.
2-2 from the 18: Pass by Nick to Canadian - 14 yard gain - stopped by Jesse.
1-8 from the 32: Pass by Nick to Matta - intercepted by Cole - stopped by Paul. QB pressure by Adam.

Red Drive #10
1-8 from the 12: Pass by Street to Adam - 12 yard gain and the TD. 4.5 - 1, Red.

Yellow Drive #11
1-12 from the 8: Run by Nick for 32 yards - stopped by Jesse and Adam.
1-20 from the 40: Pass by Nick to Paul - incomplete. Tight coverage by Street.
2-20 from the 40: Pass by Nick to Treadaway - 3 yard gain - stopped by Burleson.
3-17 from the 37: Nick - sacked by Barry. Loss of 3 yards.
4-20 from the 40: Pass by Nick to Paul - defensed by Street.

Burleson goes over to yellow before Red Drive #11 in the place of Mark.

Red Drive #11
1-20 from the 40: Pass by Street to Jesse - 11 yard gain - stopped by Paul.
2-9 from the 29: Pass by Street to Chenault - intercepted by Treadaway - stopped by Adam.

Yellow Drive #12
1-12 from the 32: Pass by Nick to Chad - 6 yard gain - stopped by Adam.
2-6 from the 26: Run by Nick for 9 yards - stopped by Day.
1-Goal from the 17: Nick throws the ball away. QB pressure by Barry.
2-Goal from the 17: Pass by Nick to Treadaway - 17 yard gain and the TD. Treadaway makes a beautiful one-handed grab; catching the ball low and with the ball having already passed him wide. Clearly the catch of his career. 4.5 - 2, Red.

Red Drive #12
1-12 from the 8: Pass by Street to Barry - dropped.
2-12 from the 8: Pass by Street to Day - 7 yard gain - stopped by Treadaway.
3-5 from the 15: Pass by Street to Josh - 12 yard gain - stopped by Nick.
1-13 from the 27: Pass by Street to Adam - incomplete. Play was deep slanting crosses. Nick was covering Barry and playing him deep so when he came across the field with Barry, he and Adam had to pull up to avoid a collision that would have made the Barry/Leo collision look like a love-tap.
2-13 from the 27: Pass by Street to Jesse - 0 yard gain - stopped by Matta. Ball was actually thrown to Barry. Treadaway tipped the ball up and Jesse (who was a lineman on this play) caught the ball at the line.
3-13 from the 27: Pass by Street to Adam - dropped. Deep, deep post. Amazing throw by Street. Adam got hands on the back of the ball at about waist high that's just not good enough.
4-13 from the 27: Pass by Street to Barry - incomplete. Ball wide.

Yellow Drive #13
1-7 from the 27: Pass by Nick to Matta - 5 yard gain - stopped by Cole.
2-2 from the 22: Pass by Nick to Leo - 7 yard gain - stopped by Street.
1-Goal from the 15: Pass by Nick to Matta - defensed by Cole. QB pressure by Chenault.
2-Goal from the 15: Pass by Nick to Paul - incomplete. QB pressure by Adam. Ball wide.
3-Goal from the 15: Nick throws the ball away. QB pressure by Adam.
4-Goal from the 15: Pass by Nick to Paul - defensed by Jesse.

That's Game: 4.5 - 2, Red.

This was a rather high scoring defensive game. I say that because the QBs were sacked 8 times, picked 7 times, pressured 11 times, and had 12 passes defensed.

Leading receiver was Leo with 5 catches for 98 yards, a 1st down, and a TD. Next was Cole with 73 yards and two 1st downs on his 2 catches. Barry had 67 yards and a TD and a 1st down. Then we had Treadawy with 4 catches on 5 targets for 57 yards a TD and two 1st downs - Treadaway has only been back a few weeks and he's becoming a real factor. Adam, Burleson, and Day had TDs as well.

Defensive Stats:

In terms of fantasy points, Adam and Jesse were tied. Adam had 3 sacks and 5 pressures (2 of which led to picks). Jesse had 4 passes defensed (all on drives where Yellow did not go on to score, 2 of which were actually on 4th down) and a pick. Cole had 2 picks and a defensed pass. Chenault had a safety and a pressure. Barry had 2 defensed passes, a sack, and a pressure. Mark had a sack, a defensed pass, and 2 QB pressures. Matta had a sack and half a pressure. Nick had a pressure and a pick. Street had a sack and a pick.

Special Teams Stats:
Players Punts Punt Yards Punts Fielded
Mark 1 57 0

Only punt in the game but it was a boomer.

Awards:

MVP - Street gets it for the second week in a row with solid play at both QB and on defense.

Offensive Player of the Game - Leo.

Defensive Player of the Game - Very tough. As noted, Adam and Jesse were tied on fantasy points and each made big plays that had a lot to do with their team's victory. This would have been a lot easier if Adam hadn't dropped 2 balls that likely would have been TDs. Had he made the catches, he would have been MVP and Jesse would have gotten the Defensive Player of the Game award. However, after some additional analysis, the award goes to Adam. A defensed pass is a loss of down which is good. A sack is a loss of down plus lost yards and pressures are not unlike defensed passes in that they lead to an incompletion.

Here is my idea on how we split up teams better. There is a consistent trend that the person who splits up the teams ends up on the team that is stronger. So, how about we identify who is going to split up the teams, and we find the person on the field who is most similar in abilities. For the sake of this example, lets say we have 2 players of equal ability, Player A and Player B

Player A and Player B stand off to the side, Player A makes 2 complete teams, once the teams are created, Player B would then get to pick which team they want to be on, and Player A has to go to the other team. Kind of like with kids saying one cuts the sandwhich in half, the other gets to pick which half they want first.

This might encourage the person splitting up the team to make it more fair as they don't get to decide which team they get to play on.

Not a bad idea but I don't agree that the teams were obviously unfair this week. Yellow had Paul, Leo, and Canadian (3 of the 4 fastest, known receivers). Both teams had 2 big, strong guys (Mark/Matta and Chenault/Josh). No one knew whether Cole would be any good (he was but we didn't know it up front). Chad was rusty but again, we didn't know that at the beginning and he was quite good last year.

Both team defenses had picks, pressures, and sacks. Jesse was held to 3 catches for 44 yards and Red's TD catches were by me, Barry, Burleson, and Day. Not exactly receivers who people think about doubling the way we do with Jesse, Canadian, Leo, and Paul.

Having said that, one mistake we made this week was we didn't stop to let the teams evaluate the fairness of the split before the game started. We said we'd do that and that should have happened this week. It definitely will next week.

I thought teams were pretty fair. We started hot but didn't do a good job against the pass rush... then we got frustrated with each other... and we melted down a bit. When we were composed, it was just about an even game.

I wouldn't recommend making major changes but a few different folks are probably capable of splitting teams... we shouldn't leave that up to Chenault every time.

Although I thought the teams were fair, I do like the kid's sandwich idea. I know I personally might subliminally cut my half of the sandwich a little bigger. Seems like a good way to counter that from happening.
