Season 14 Awards Awards Overview

There are three types of Awards this year:
1) Statistical Awards - those awards that are won based solely on statistical data and not based on any subjective analysis.
2) Commissioner's Awards - the major awards of Offensive, Defensive, and Most Valuable Players of the year.
3) The People's Choice Awards - given out based on votes via Mark's Survey.

The Statistical Awards and the Commissioner's Awards are given in two categories: Die Hards and Regulars based on the number of games played in. There are two categories for a couple reasons:

1) Everyone has unusually high and low performances during the year. These outlier games have a much bigger impact (for good or ill) on players who did not play as many games (trust me on this, I run a statistical analysis shop).

2) People who don't play every week or who have not played as long, often don't put up the same kinds of numbers as players who do. Some of this may be practice, some if it is new players getting used to the game and some of it is other players getting used to new players so that they are more involved in the game.

My goal is to have 10 to 15 players in each category in any given year (actually, I wish that I had 20+ players in the die hard category because so many people attended regularly). This year that meant that Die Hards were players who played in at least half the games and Regulars Played in at least 1/4 of the games.

In keeping with a suggestion that Mark made last summer, this year I've changed the naming conventions around the statistical awards. Statistical Awards now carry the name of the Die Hard Player who has the current record in that category. So, if last year's Die Hard winner still holds the high mark, the award still carries that player's name. If this year's Die Hard winner sets a new mark, then the award name changes.

Awards to follow.
