Choices, Choices

2 weeks ago, some HS/JHS football coaching organization had rented out the fields. As a result, we used the little field behind the softball field for the game. This last week, after 3 days of solid rain, I set up on the same small field since it has far, far more grass on it.

The question is, should we keep playing on that field even though it is close to 5 yards narrower? I think the field size made a difference this last week. It certainly did on a potential TD play to Josh and probably contributed to a lot of that pressure the QBs felt since they didn't have as much room to run/scramble or to spread out receivers in patterns.

Obviously, it would best to play on the bigger fields if we get 18 people. 16 is probably even pushing it a bit though 14 works pretty well. The obvious benefit to the smaller field is that there is much more grass on it which is much nicer to run (or fall) on.

Preferences? If we have a week where we're going to only have 14 (or it's been raining), should I set up on the small field and then set up on the wider field when the numbers are bigger?

I'm all for playing on the small field if the game's small or the fields are wet.

small field is fine other than the fence and sprinkler heads...

I prefer the bigger fields. While I like the grass, the fence is too close to the field. On one play last weekend, that fence prohibited Josh from being able to dive for the ball. While it is certainly a good backup field. I think we should try to play on the bigger fields when possible, and only use that field when needed.
